Did you know?
Rather than sporting the same dedicated outfit each time, as is usually the case in magical girl series, Cardcaptor Sakura is one of the very few heroines in anime who frequently has a costume update when battling a new enemy. In the story, each costume is hand-sown by Sakura’s good friend Tomoyo.
The fact that it’s quite rare to see Sakura in the same look is one of the key characteristics that fans appreciate about this popular series, and always adds to an element of surprise.

July 27, 2021
Cute level: 6/10
Evolves from: N/A
Evolves into: Females evolve into Vespiquen
The emoji-faced Combee is hard not to love with a single bee having three adorable faces in each of its hexagons. Even better, the bees can be as sweet as the honeycomb they look like. In the first episode that Combee were introduced, they helped Ash and his friends find the Enchanted Honey.

Cute level: 7/10
Evolves from: N/A
Evolves into: Metapod
This little caterpillar is very hungry indeed, eating hundreds of leaves a day. It has big black and yellow ringed eyes, and a little, wriggly green body. Caterpie is easy to catch and evolve to a Butterfree, making it a great starter Pokemon. It was even the first Pokemon Ash caught in the wild!

Cute level: 8/10
Evolves from: Metapod
Evolves into: N/A
Caterpie’s final evolution is the equally cute Butterfree. It has an adorably chubby body and beautiful wings. Ash also evolved his Caterpie into a Butterfree, leading to the touching moment when Ash decides to release his own Butterfree to be with its mate.

Cute level: 6/10
Evolves from: N/A
Evolves into: Ledian
Ladybugs are one of the cutest bugs in real life, so logically, the ladybug-inspired Ledyba has to be one of the cutest bug Pokemon! Ledyba are very social creatures, getting sad and shy when left alone. They also play a role in pollinating the plants of the Pokemon world, making them very important for the environment!
Cute level: 6/10
Evolves from: N/A
Evolves into: Spewpa
Before Lucas the Spider took over the internet, there was Joltik, another big-eyed, fuzzy spider-oid. It is one of the smallest of all Pokemon, with a height of just 1 centimeter. While it's small enough to fit in your pocket, its electric attacks pack a big punch! Arguably, it is one of the cutest electric type Pokemon as well. Its evolved form, Galvantula, is also one of the more powerful bug types there is.
Image via Shutterstock
Cute level: 7/10
Evolves from: N/A
Evolves into: Spewpa
Scatterbug’s single bucktooth, perpetually dismayed expression and small size make it look like a little lost child, and as a larval Pokemon, it technically is one. Its little legs, round black body, and oversized head only add to its cuteness. Who wouldn’t want to adopt this little guy?
Cute level: 7/10
Evolves from: N/A
Evolves into: Frosmoth
Another larval Pokemon, Snom is a snowy blob supported by four stubby legs and covered in a translucent shell of ice. When it’s not sleeping or eating, it’s looking for food. Snom depends on friendship to level up, so make sure to spend plenty of time feeding it!
Cute level: 8/10
Evolves from: N/A
Evolves into: Sewaddle
Swadloon looks like a grumpy toddler wrapped in a blanket. This “blanket” is actually a cloak made of leaves, which it uses to keep warm. Despite its grumpy face, Swadloon is a friendly Pokemon. It’s so friendly, in fact, that it needs high friendship to level up. It levels up into Sewaddle, then Leavanny, which are equally adorable in design. For other cute Grass-type Pokemon, be sure to check out our article!
Image via Shutterstock
Cute level: 9/10
Evolves from: N/A
Evolves into: Ribombee
Cutiefly has the word cute right in its name! Its appearance lives up to expectations, with an ovular body, disproportionately big eyes, and a pair of tiny wings. It is one of the smallest of all the Pokemon and the lightest of all Bug-type Pokemon. The Cutiefly can detect the aura of living things, and so tends to gather around people with strong emotions.
Cute level: 10/10
Evolves from: Cutiefly
Evolves into: N/A
Ribombee has fairy wings… need we say more? It evolves from the Cutiefly at level 25. Its face is very expressive for a bug-type, with a small smile and white hairs over its eyes that look like eyelashes. It even has a brown “scarf” around its neck, furthering its humanoid appearance. As a dual bug and fairy type, its design certainly does a good job of blending both!

YumeTwins Kawaii Culture Blog›Choosing a Starter Pokémon
July 16, 2021
Picture this: you’ve been waiting and waiting for what seems like forever to get your hands on the newest Pokémon video game for your Nintendo Switch. It’s felt like an eternity since you first heard the announcement about the newest game’s upcoming release, and today the wait feels all worth it, as it’s finally the first day that it goes on sale!
You go to your favorite video game shop nearby, you tell them your name and that you’ve had the title reserved, and the staff member hurriedly gets you your very own copy that’s been waiting for you and places it in your hands. This is exactly the moment that you have long been waiting for! So, you make your way home, and as you pass by familiar sights and think about what kind of snacks would be good to enjoy with your new game, it suddenly hits you! There’s a very important choice that you must soon make, and it will affect how you go about gameplay, how quickly you progress through the game’s world, and whether your battles with Pokémon go smoothly or become dragged out and strenuous.
What could this gnawing question entail? And why is it seemingly so important? As a gamer on the way to become a Pokémon master, it’s the most pivotal choice that you will have to make as you set about your journey. The golden, all-important question is this: ‘Which starter Pokémon should I choose?’
And indeed! Exactly which starter Pokémon should you be choosing? It surely is a difficult question to answer, and there is plenty to consider before coming to a conclusion and making your selection final. However, it is also great fun to go through a list of all the pros and cons and compare the strengths and weaknesses of each possible starter character that could end up being your main sidekick.
You don’t need to go far for the best kawaii Pokémon goods! YumeTwins sends them straight from Japan to your door each month!
The starter Pokémon is your go-to partner as you battle and trek your way through the Pokémon world and meet new friends within the game. As a gamer, you’ll need to choose a Pokémon who suits your own personality and gaming style well. Surely, it may be best to avoid selecting a Poké-partner who is difficult to tame or who is too aggressive for your style, and instead choosing one who is mostly skilled at technique and fast surprise attacks. But also on the other hand though, if you are ready to power through the game and not willing to play second fiddle to anyone, then a Pokémon who has higher strengths, stronger attacks, and a skilled agility when it moves around on the battlefield is the kind of battle partner that you should seek.
At the very beginning of the Pokémon series within the first game (and also at the start of the anime series), players are informed that there are three possible starter Pokémon that could be chosen to go along with you on your travels. These three are extremely well-loved and dear to many players’ hearts. They are none other than the Poké-trio comprised of: Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle!
It is nothing but natural and expected that these three cute and lovable Pokémon would be close to the hearts of so many gamers around the world. The world first got to know about the Pokémon world through these three starters, and each one of them is very cute in their own way, yet they can all evolve into a stronger and bigger version of their great selves once it is finally the time to evolve into the next form in the evolution cycle. The bond between an aspiring Pokémon master and their starter Pokémon is unbreakable and there will be nothing but loyalty between the pair.
That being said, it is absolutely the furthest thing from a secret that the main human character throughout the Pokémon series itself, Ash Ketchum, had a far from usual experience when it came to selecting his starter Pokémon. Ash is the odd one out, and instead of having the chance to traverse the world with Bulbasaur, Charmander, or Squirtle, Ash instead is very lucky to be given the opportunity to explore the world of Pokémon with cute electric mouse-looking Pikachu!
What do you think? Would you rather go ahead with a member of the original trio? Or are you one hundred percent team Pikachu? There’s no right or wrong with this question, as either option opens up fun possibilities and unique chances throughout your journey through the video games.
In recent years, however, another super lovable and kawaii trio of starter Pokémon has come to the fore and made a name for itself. This group of three is none other than Grookey, Scorbunny, and Sobble from the Pokémon Sword and Shield video games! What do you think? Which is your favorite one out of this neo trio? It’s really hard to choose, as they’re all great battle partners with unique strengths and power as you progress through the game.
Are you the type of gamer who would prefer to just choose any random Pokémon at all that you wish to be your starter partner? Or are you totally okay with having to choose one of the prescribed starters? We think that no matter what Pokémon you end up selecting as your starter, you will surely grow as a team and have the best journey together as you work your way through battles of strength and ability that will test your skills (not to mention constantly having to dodge Team Rocket’s random appearances!) as you get closer to your ultimate goal of becoming a Pokémon master!
With that, here are some key facts for some of the most popular starter Pokémon out there!
Bulbasaur
Type: Grass, Poison
Abilities: Overgrow, Chlorophyll
Japanese Name: Fushigidane
Charmander
Type: Fire
Abilities: Blaze, Solar Power
Japanese Name: Hitokage
Squirtle
Type: Water
Abilities: Torrent, Rain Dish
Japanese Name: Zenigame
Grookey
Type: Grass
Abilities: Overgrow, Grassy Surge
Japanese Name: Sarunori
Scorbunny
Type: Fire
Abilities: Blaze, Libero
Japanese Name: Hibanii
Sobble
Type: Water
Abilities: Torrent, Sniper
Japanese Name: Messon
We hope we've helped you out with your decision as to which starter Pokémon you'd like to choose when you start your next Pokémon video game! And if you're already on your journey battling to becoming a Pokémon master, we hope we've brought back fond memories of the early days when you first had to make your decision about who would be your first Pokémon friend!
Who do you think is the best or most battle-ready starter Pokémon, and which starter Pokémon do you think has the most potential as they evolve to help you win the most battles? Do you wish that any character in the Pokémon world could be a starter? Which Pokémon have you chosen as your own starter before? Let us know in the comment section below!

YumeTwins Kawaii Culture Blog›Rare Catches in ‘Pokémon Go’
July 14, 2021
When the mobile game app Pokémon Go was released in 2016 on iOS and Android, it took nearly no time at all for it to become one of the biggest gaming hits ever, and it’s by far the absolute biggest hit the world has seen yet for an augmented reality game!
A product of a gargantuan collaborative effort between Nintendo and software company Niantic, games that make it this big and that receive acclaim from all different sorts of demographics and age ranges are quite rare and a huge feat to accomplish! All across the world, people were downloading the game and heading outside to see what kind of virtual reality Pokémon characters would appear in their neighborhood and local hangouts, sharing their finds and catches on social media, making selfies with Pokémon ubiquitous.
Positive Effects
Huge crowds of people could be seen traversing the outdoors, whether it be urban or rural, and positive stories about weight loss and people feeling healthier due to getting more exercise from the game abound. In fact, there are numerous heartwarming stories related to this hit game, such as parents having an easier time bonding with their children, people being able to make new friends based on shared love of the game, and it’s even helped people to fight off depression!
You don’t need to go far for the best kawaii Pokémon goods! YumeTwins sends them straight from Japan to your door each month!
The biggest hit factor behind this mobile gaming phenomenon is that Pokémon Go brings what was once a world only accessible on a TV screen or gaming console like the Nintendo Switch into the real world itself! It’s nothing but a thrill to be able to open up the Pokémon Go app on your phone, take a little walk, and then open up your camera to find that there are Pokémon hanging out in your favorite spaces.
Staying Power
The draw that keeps people enamored and coming back to still play throughout the past few years is the fact that you can collect all sorts of lovable Pokémon characters. There are a few characters that seem to pop up anywhere you go in the world. But the biggest excitement is when you have a certain handful of Pokémon in mind, your absolute faves. Some of the favorite Pokémon tend to be a bit rare, so you may have to do some research and quite possibly take a short trip here and there, discover some new places along the way, and then finally battle to capture your long sought after Pokémon!
In fact, for super rare Pokémon from Pokémon Go, such as Legendary or Mythical type Pokémon, these are often located (on purpose) in only certain select countries or regions of the world. With a passport in one hand and a mobile phone in the other, a few die-hard gamers have made the needed treks around the world to battle and capture the rarest and most fabled of Pokémon in the game!
Our Favorite Rarities in Pokémon Go
To start with, based on info shared by players and general trends within Pokémon Go itself, if you’re asking about the absolute rarest Pokémon in the game at the moment, it seems that these are the Top 5 most elusive: Axew, Unown, Chimecho, Tirtouga, and Archen.
However, we’d love to share some of the most kawaii of these rare Pokémon characters within the game!
The kawaii trio of Azelf, Mesprit, and Uxie
These three Pokémon, also known as the Lake Trio, are exceedingly rare and difficult to locate within Pokémon Go. However, as cute as they may be, they have quite an interesting and regal backstory. Their names are inspired by the three Imperial Regalia of Japan. These are composed of a mirror that represents wisdom, a jewel signifying wisdom, and a sword symbolizing valor.
Unown
A super rare Psychic type Pokémon, one of the interesting points of its design is that there is more than one, quite a few perhaps, and each variant shape of this Pokémon represents a letter of the Latin alphabet. Apparently there is no rhyme or reason as to where exactly might be the best area in the world to try catching it. If you locate one of these you are lucky for sure!
Shiny Pokémon
This category in Pokémon Go is interesting in that it’s comprised of not entirely uncommon characters, but these Pokémon are made extra special because they’re colored quite differently than usual!
Pikachu Libre
This variant of Pikachu outfitted in a Lucha libre type outfit is unique in that it’s not necessarily impossible to find, but you’ll need to be at a super high level within the game in order to battle and capture it.
Do you have what it takes to catch some of these super rare finds? We believe in you! Let us know in the comments what some of your favorite Poké-rarities are, and if there are any in particular that you’ve already caught or that you’re trying to catch! Best of luck in the game!

YumeTwins Kawaii Culture Blog›The Best Pokémon Memes – When Fans Write the Script
July 09, 2021
Cover image source
From shocked Pikachu, to ageless Ash, to terrible at being terrible Team Rocket, the internet loves a good Pokémon meme. Indeed, even your grandmother probably recognizes the cute electric mouse. So with each new social media platform that emerges, it’s only a matter of time before the meme battles begin!
Memes have been bringing joy and giggles pretty much since the dawn of the internet, but it was Tumblr that really helped them take off. While every fanbase has their favorites, the sheer amount of Pokémon material available (thanks to 1100+ episodes to sift through) means there are Poke-memes for every occasion. Is there anyone left on the planet who hasn’t seen shocked Pikachu? Let’s check out some of the ones that captured our hearts!
What is a Meme?
First things first, let’s make sure we’re all on the same page here. Broadly speaking, an internet meme can mean many things: a catchphrase, an idea, or a concept that is spread by the internet, usually on social media. But, what is now more typically considered a meme is a combination of visual media (image or GIF) with captions added on top. Often the image or text is a reference to popular culture, usually with a comedic or witty agenda.
You don’t need to go far for the best kawaii Pokémon goods! YumeTwins sends them straight from Japan to your door each month!
Team Rocket FTW
A Pokémon version of the classic ‘woman yelling at cat’ meme, this version has transformed the ladies into team rocket, and the cat to none other than Pikachu. The original meme was actually a combination of two separate images; a screenshot from a 2011 episode of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and someone’s cat who is rather unimpressed with being served veggies.
The emotional upheaval of Housewives cast member Taylor Armstrong, alongside Kyle Richards, telling off a smirky feline struck internet gold back in 2019. From the moment it was first posted on Twitter, this meme has been edited for every fandom and current event under the sun.
Team Rocket and Pikachu as “Lady yelling at cat.” Image via 9gag
Given the eternal rivalry between Team Rocket and Pikachu, the side by side images perfectly capture the personality of the characters as well as how pretty much every episode of Pokémon ends: with Team Rocket in complete meltdown mode.
One Does Not Simply…Recognize Team Rocket
This is another Pokémon version of a classic internet meme, this time taken from the fantasy epic Lord of the Rings. Boromir’s famous words, “one does not simply walk into Mordor”, along with his serious expression and hand position to form a ring, was quickly edited with the basic formula of: One does not simply + action
Where does Team Rocket find tailors on such short notice? Image source
Given Team Rocket’s habit of hilariously bad disguises (that somehow fool Ash every single time?), it was only a matter of time before this meme was applied to their seemingly endless supply of outfits. Even though these memes are all technically different, since it's a collection of screen captures but with the same text, we think it still counts as one entry onto this list.
Team Rocket are lovable, bumbling villains, and their flair for fashion just makes us (kind of) root for them even more.
Shocked Pikachu
This classic meme was first uploaded as a reaction to a post on Tumblr on September 26th, 2018 and was taken from Season 1, Episode 10: “Bulbasaur and the Hidden Village”. Since it was first posted, the image quickly gained popularity as a comical way to feign surprise at a predictable or mundane event.
Whether this meme was created organically by a fan or was a stealthy marketing campaign, Wired actually has a whole article examining the rise in popularity of the image, which happened at the same time as the release of the Detective Pikachu movie. We’re just here for the wholesome Pikachu images, but make of it what you will.
Pikachu, taking over the internet one meme at a time. Image source
In fact, the meme is so well known people no longer have to post the image, they can just reply in a comment with *shocked Pikachu face*, and everyone gets it. Well done, Pikachu!
Dexter x Ash
Ash Ketchum is like many animated characters in long-running series, he mysteriously seems to stay the same age. His journey to become a Pokémon Master began when he was just 10 years, 10 months, and 10 days old, and yet, it’s been almost 25 years since the debut of the first Pokémon episode and he looks suspiciously the same age. Either he has access to an incredible skincare routine or there’s some strange Pokémon magic going on here.
Growing Dexter x Ageless Ash. Image source
This meme combines the classically quizzical character of Dexter from Dexter’s Lab and Ash to highlight the existential crisis we all face when we grow older than our animated idols.
Ash vs Voldemort
Ash’s secret past, defeating the Dark Lord. Image source
Two infamous pre-teen characters collide with this Harry Potter x Ash Ketchum meme. The beloved British book series revolves around the boy with the lightning bolt scar, so one astute fan found it mighty suspicious that Ash seems to have two of them on his cheeks. Naturally, the only conclusion one could draw from this design choice was that the Pokémon Master-in-training had secretly defeated the Dark Lord, not once, but twice, before turning away from the world of magic. The secret is out, Ash!
So Many Memes, So Little Time
The beauty of meme culture is that it is always evolving. Someone will dig up a cultural gem and bring it to life again (please, no more Rick Rolling), or a new series will take over the zeitgeist. Because of that, it’s a given that there will always be more Pokémon memes to explore and chuckle at. And with meme generator websites a dime a dozen, you can easily contribute to the canon. If you can’t be a Pokémon Trainer, how about a meme master instead?
Which Pokémon meme is your favorite? Have you got any gems that we left out? Let us know in the comments below!

July 07, 2021
When it comes to Pokémon and their evolutions, there are a multitude of characteristics, themes, trends, and even a few one-off stylistic choices that sometimes make perfect sense, but at other times could possibly throw one for a loop (in a good way, though!).
All throughout the popular anime series, which has over 1,110 episodes at time of writing, viewers and fans get a chance to meet new and exciting Pokémon, while adding to their lists of favorites. And if you’re a fan and purveyor of the universe of exciting Pokémon video games from Nintendo that have been released through the years, you probably have an even deeper understanding and familiarity with how these hundreds of characters change throughout their life cycles.
Evolutionary Characteristics
You have likely heard in school before of the name Charles Darwin the scientist and his Theory of Evolution. However, in a Pokémon game or in the anime series, these evolutions aren’t exactly like that. Instead of gaining one or two new traits over a long period of time, a Pokémon evolution is a complete and instant shift, where one Pokémon character immediately becomes an entirely new being with a completely new look! This is definitely a new-fangled type of evolution for sure!
You don’t need to go far for the best kawaii Pokémon goods! YumeTwins sends them straight from Japan to your door each month!
The more episodes you’ve watched and the more Pokémon games you’ve played, the easier it is to know about which characters advance into which forms. And you may also know that most evolutions involve said Pokémon gaining an increase in strength, power, and resilience, not to mention sheer size. Not yet evolved Pokémon generally are perceived to be on the cute side of things, whereas their evolutionary forms tend to look strong and fierce in appearance. There are a few instances, however, in which this isn’t necessarily the case, and a Pokémon will evolve into a seemingly more kawaii form when compared to the appearance of its previous form.
Evolutions of Note
When thinking about Pokémon evolutions, what is the first duo or trio that comes to mind? Due to their similarity in name, in shape, in ubiquitousness, and in skills, one of the first evolutionary Pokémon pairs that may come to mind is likely that of Pikachu and its next stage of being: Raichu. Ash Ketchum’s best pal, however, doesn’t seem to ever want or even need to evolve into Raichu, so despite the well-known existence of this character we don’t get to see as much of Raichu as one might expect. The example this pair give us though is the quintessential formula of leveling up within this series. Raichu’s base stats and strengths are about 165 points higher than the base stats of Pikachu’s are.
Pikachu and Raichu aren’t the only ones in this family tree though! There’s another member of this electric mouse family that comes before Pikachu, however, and that’s none other than the kawaii and petit Pichu! Pikachu and Pichu are great pals and it’s easy to see that Pikachu cares deeply for this little cutie!
And to top it all off, there’s actually a final member of this all-electric clan. If you’re in the Alola region of the Pokémon world in any of Nintendo’s video games of either Pokémon Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun, or Ultra Moon, then Pikachu has a chance to evolve into a special form of Raichu. This Raichu has a more saturated orange color than does the usual iteration, plus ocean-like blue eyes instead of the usual black colored ones. But surely the most significant difference between Alolan Raichu and non-Alolan Raichu is that the former one is not just an Electric type, but a combination Electric and Psychic type Pokémon!
Evolutionary ‘Families’
There are three specific variations of evolution styles amongst the range of Pokémon characters. For instance, certain Pokémon only have one possible other Pokémon that they will ever have a chance to become, meaning that the total number of Pokémon possible in this ‘family’ is just two. Then, the most common example would be Pokémon that have a base form, middle form, and then a final form, leaving three possible members in this ‘family’ tree. Next, there are the rare Pokémon that never evolve and only have one possible identity. In general, these non-evolving Pokémon characters are ones that are either Legendary type or Mythical type.
Unique Cases
In addition to these three main groups of evolutions, there are also a few Pokémon, such as Eevee, whose second or third evolution will allow them to turn into just one of a number possibilities of different types of variants based on what exactly the trigger for the evolution was in the first place. After Eevee who will it be that you meet? Will it be Vaporeon, Jolteon, Flareon, Espeon, Umbreon, Leafeon, Glaceon, or maybe Sylveon? So many possibilities! It’s definitely exciting to see who exactly will appear and under what circumstances!
Dratini – Dragonair – Dragonite, Our Favorite Evolution
One of our favorite evolutions is that of Dratini, a dragon-type Pokémon, who might be most well-known as its middle evolutionary form, that of Dragonair. Dratini and Dragonair are both sky-blue colored, almost snake-like (in a super cute way!) Pokémon who look very similar to each other. In fact, you’d surely be forgiven if you somehow confused the two, as their likenesses are similar enough at first glance.
Why this evolution is our favorite though is because of what happens next. At the time when Dragonair evolves, its next form is the lovable Dragonite. But, when taking a look at Dragonite’s first two forms, you might begin to wonder how it’s possible that the first two forms look so similar, and that the final form is, dare we say it, quite a random outcome!
Dragonite is not just a Dragon type Pokémon, but also a Flying type. Not to mention, it’s a completely different shape than the first two members of this family tree. Instead of being designed in a snake or serpentine shape, Dragonite has two legs plus a pair of (tiny!) wings. And the most striking difference may be the color difference. Dragonite is draped in a creamy orange color while its first two forms are of a sky blue hue.

YumeTwins Kawaii Culture Blog›Pokémon Sweet Treats & Snacks: Catch ‘Em All, With A Plate!
July 04, 2021
When it was first broadcast to audiences outside of Japan, nobody could have imagined the iconic status these adorable Pocket Monsters would reach. Twenty five years later, Pokémon, especially Pikachu, are recognized all over the world. Avid fans, who maybe started with cards (are we dating ourselves here?) can now access almost any kind of merch featuring their favorites, from figures, to fashion, decor, to decals.
But who doesn’t love a sweet or salty treat? Let’s take a look at some of the wacky and wonderful edible Pokémon delights out there. You might be surprised just how Pokémon your diet can be!
Eevee Tail Apple Pie Frappe
Released in fall 2020, this caramel-hued drink is inspired by the delightful seasonal flavor of apple pie. Infused with crisp apple flavor, this slushy drink is both sweet and tart with a generous whipped cream topping, sprinkled with pie crust. But why is “tail” in the name? Because we saved the best for last: the frappe is topped with a cookie in the shape of Eevee’s tail!
For the ultimate Eevee fans, there was also the option to buy the Eevee-shaped fuzzy cup sleeve. Perfect for the cutest ever drink photo-op and for keeping your hands from getting too hot or too cold while sipping away.
Pokémon x Mister Donut
Pokémon x Mister Donut 2020 Collection
Mister Donut is all over Japan and the go-to place for affordable, delicious donuts. They often collaborate with big brands and even famous patissiers to create gorgeous limited-edition collections. In 2019, they joined forces with Pokémon to create this adorable selection of donuts, including, of course, their famous mochi donuts. There was even a spherical Poké Ball donut filled with whipped cream and coated in a shiny strawberry-flavored glaze.
Even though this collection is no longer available, not to worry, it’s actually one of many collaborations between Pokémon x Mister Donut. So some version of adorable donuts featuring your favorite characters are likely to come around again soon!
Pikachu Ice Cream Cake
Pikachu Ice Cream Cake at Baskin Robbins Japan
When you’re a kid, the best birthday parties seem to always have an ice cream cake. Something about layers of creamy ice cream, a cookie crumb base, and icing decorations made us kids lose our minds with excitement. But who says ice cream cakes have an age limit?
Baskin Robbins (sometimes known as “31” in Japan), has a slew of character-themed cakes, including Pokémon. There’s the “Surprise Cake” decorated like a Poké-Ball, the ‘Pallet Cake’ which feature Pikachu, Eevee, Yamper, and Scorbunny, and finally, the most kawaii cake ever, a dome cake decorated like Pikachu. Released in 2020, the Poké-themed cakes have proven so popular that they are now part of the regular cake selection.
You don’t need to go far to get the best kawaii Pokémon goods! YumeTwins sends them straight to your door with our monthly subscription box!
Pikachu Puré Lemon Gummies
Not sure about getting a whole cake? How about some Pikachu-shaped candy to satisfy your sweet tooth? These pure candies are so called because they are packed full of lemon flavor for a seriously sweet and sour experience. Plus, there are 8 different versions of the packaging, all featuring the ever photogenic Pikachu.
Pokémon x Tohato Vegetable Salad Bites
Pokémon x Tohato Vegetable Salad Flavored Snacks featuring Fennekin
Does vegetable flavoring count as a vegetable? These crunchy corn puffs are stamped with Pokémon characters and are the perfect crunch to go along with your next Pokémon marathon or Pokémon-Go excursion. Tohato is a hugely popular snack brand in Japan and has paired up with Pokémon many times to create special edition releases, just like this one.
Pokémon Noodle Cup
That’s right, even noodle cups have received the Pokémon treatment! Noodle cups were created in Japan, so of course, Japanese people slurp them up like no one’s business. There are even whole rows at the supermarket filled just with endless flavors of the popular instant-snack.
So of course, it came as no surprise when Pokémon released their own version of the classic dorm room cuisine, partnering with instant ramen king – Sapporo Ichiban. Available in soy sauce and seafood flavor, both versions feature Pikachu on the packaging, a Poké-ball-themed lid, Pokémon stickers inside, and, wait for it, Pikachu-shaped fish cakes! Affordable, delicious (and maybe a little nutritious), you can’t go wrong with this one.
Pokémon Valentine’s Day Chocolates
Japan (along with other Asian countries) has actually split Valentine’s day into two separate holidays. February 14th is when women give sweets to men, and then on March 14th, otherwise known as ‘White Day’, men return the favor.
Every year, companies rev up their chocolate game and create beautiful collections that would make a sweetheart swoon. Pokémon, of course, is right in the middle of it all and this year released several assorted chocolate collections. The one in the video above features Pokémon, Eevee, and Mew!
Pokémon Café Pikachu’s Genki Curry
Pokémon Café Pikachu’s Genki Curry
OK, we know we said snacks and sweets, but we just couldn’t resist with this curry plate from the Pokémon Café. Opened in 2019, this Poké-centric eatery has become a mecca for all Pokémon fans. The menu is filled with instagrammable sweets and treats, from cupcakes and lattes, to pancakes and curry.
This Genki Curry (‘genki’ means happy & healthy in Japanese) is based on the school lunch favorite of curry rice. It’s a pork-based curry packed full of veggies and potatoes, which are cut into stars, and is topped with a serving of rice, colored yellow and molded into the shape of Pikachu’s head!
While the Pokémon Café may only be in Tokyo and Osaka for now, you can still get a bit of the experience with this Marumiya x Pokémon curry which includes a sticker!
Always More Pokémon
Of course, with the popularity of Pokémon showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon, there are always new snacks and sweets to discover, so we’ll be sure to keep you updated!
Have you tried any of these Pokémon-themed snacks? Which ones have now been added to your must-try list? Let us know in the comments below!

The Top 10 Cutest Bug-Type Pokemon
By AlanaJuly 27, 2021
Are you scared of bugs? Don’t worry, these cute crawlies are far from frightening. They’re more interested in worming their way right into your heart. Here are our picks for the top ten most adorable bug-type Pokemon.
1. Combee
Elemental Type: Bug/FlyingCute level: 6/10
Evolves from: N/A
Evolves into: Females evolve into Vespiquen
The emoji-faced Combee is hard not to love with a single bee having three adorable faces in each of its hexagons. Even better, the bees can be as sweet as the honeycomb they look like. In the first episode that Combee were introduced, they helped Ash and his friends find the Enchanted Honey.

2. Caterpie
Elemental Type: BugCute level: 7/10
Evolves from: N/A
Evolves into: Metapod
This little caterpillar is very hungry indeed, eating hundreds of leaves a day. It has big black and yellow ringed eyes, and a little, wriggly green body. Caterpie is easy to catch and evolve to a Butterfree, making it a great starter Pokemon. It was even the first Pokemon Ash caught in the wild!

3. Butterfree
Elemental Type: Flying/DragonCute level: 8/10
Evolves from: Metapod
Evolves into: N/A
Caterpie’s final evolution is the equally cute Butterfree. It has an adorably chubby body and beautiful wings. Ash also evolved his Caterpie into a Butterfree, leading to the touching moment when Ash decides to release his own Butterfree to be with its mate.

4. Ledyba
Elemental Type: Bug/FlyingCute level: 6/10
Evolves from: N/A
Evolves into: Ledian
Ladybugs are one of the cutest bugs in real life, so logically, the ladybug-inspired Ledyba has to be one of the cutest bug Pokemon! Ledyba are very social creatures, getting sad and shy when left alone. They also play a role in pollinating the plants of the Pokemon world, making them very important for the environment!
5. Joltik
Elemental Type: Electric/BugCute level: 6/10
Evolves from: N/A
Evolves into: Spewpa
Before Lucas the Spider took over the internet, there was Joltik, another big-eyed, fuzzy spider-oid. It is one of the smallest of all Pokemon, with a height of just 1 centimeter. While it's small enough to fit in your pocket, its electric attacks pack a big punch! Arguably, it is one of the cutest electric type Pokemon as well. Its evolved form, Galvantula, is also one of the more powerful bug types there is.
Image via Shutterstock
6. Scatterbug
Elemental Type: BugCute level: 7/10
Evolves from: N/A
Evolves into: Spewpa
Scatterbug’s single bucktooth, perpetually dismayed expression and small size make it look like a little lost child, and as a larval Pokemon, it technically is one. Its little legs, round black body, and oversized head only add to its cuteness. Who wouldn’t want to adopt this little guy?
7. Snom
Elemental Type: Bug/IceCute level: 7/10
Evolves from: N/A
Evolves into: Frosmoth
Another larval Pokemon, Snom is a snowy blob supported by four stubby legs and covered in a translucent shell of ice. When it’s not sleeping or eating, it’s looking for food. Snom depends on friendship to level up, so make sure to spend plenty of time feeding it!
8. Swadloon
Elemental Type: Bug/GrassCute level: 8/10
Evolves from: N/A
Evolves into: Sewaddle
Swadloon looks like a grumpy toddler wrapped in a blanket. This “blanket” is actually a cloak made of leaves, which it uses to keep warm. Despite its grumpy face, Swadloon is a friendly Pokemon. It’s so friendly, in fact, that it needs high friendship to level up. It levels up into Sewaddle, then Leavanny, which are equally adorable in design. For other cute Grass-type Pokemon, be sure to check out our article!
Image via Shutterstock
9. Cutiefly
Elemental Type: Bug/FairyCute level: 9/10
Evolves from: N/A
Evolves into: Ribombee
Cutiefly has the word cute right in its name! Its appearance lives up to expectations, with an ovular body, disproportionately big eyes, and a pair of tiny wings. It is one of the smallest of all the Pokemon and the lightest of all Bug-type Pokemon. The Cutiefly can detect the aura of living things, and so tends to gather around people with strong emotions.
10. Ribombee
Elemental Type: Bug/FairyCute level: 10/10
Evolves from: Cutiefly
Evolves into: N/A
Ribombee has fairy wings… need we say more? It evolves from the Cutiefly at level 25. Its face is very expressive for a bug-type, with a small smile and white hairs over its eyes that look like eyelashes. It even has a brown “scarf” around its neck, furthering its humanoid appearance. As a dual bug and fairy type, its design certainly does a good job of blending both!

YumeTwins Kawaii Culture Blog›Pokemon Cafe Tokyo: 10 Things to Know Before You Go
Pokemon Cafe Tokyo: 10 Things to Know Before You Go
By AlanaJuly 27, 2021
If you love Pokémon, then you have to visit Tokyo’s Pokémon Cafe. Everything from the food and decor to the giant chef Pikachu helps to welcome and immerse you in the world of Pokémon. However, there are a few things you need to know before going. We’ve put together a complete list to make sure your experience at this cute cafe is Pokémon-perfect!
1. It’s the World’s First Permanent Pokémon Cafe
Before the construction of Tokyo’s Pokémon cafe in the Pokémon Center Tokyo DX, there were only temporary Pokémon pop-up cafes around Japan. Despite there being several Pokémon centers, this cafe is the world’s first permanent Pokémon-themed cafe. As of now, there is only one other permanent Pokémon cafe in the world located in Osaka.2. The Pokémon Cafe Tokyo is Reservation-Only
Before visiting the Pokémon cafe, you must make a reservation in advance and can reserve a slot on the official Pokémon website. They accept reservations up to 30 days before your visit. However, we recommend reserving as far in advance as possible to ensure you get the day you want because the cafe is very popular. Also make sure to arrive on time. If you are more than 15 minutes late, your reservation will be canceled. After arrival, you have 90 minutes to enjoy the cafe.Image via Shutterstock
3. Pre-Order Special Goods When You Reserve
If you want the Pokémon cafe’s exclusive special goods, you need to order them when you make your reservation. You can only order up to three per person but they are worth checking out. The goods include adorable chef and waitress Pikachu mascot keychains and Pokemon-decorated plastic sleeve sets. You don’t need to go to the café to get kawaii Pokémon goods! YumeTwins will send them straight to your door with our monthly subscription box.
4. Take Public Transportation
The Pokémon café is located in central Tokyo in an area called Nihombashi. As the area around the café is crowded and doesn’t have much parking, the café itself recommends taking public transportation there. The cafe is located inside the Takashimaya Shopping Center East Building on the 5th floor by the Pokémon Center Tokyo DX (the largest Pokémon center in Japan). The café is 5 minutes on foot from JR Tokyo Station, via the Yaesu North Exit if you’re using a JR line. Or, you can use the Nihombashi Station’s B2 Exit if you’re taking the Tokyo Metro Ginza and Tozai Lines!
5. You Order via Tablet
Ordering is very easy, even if you don’t speak Japanese. Each table gets a tablet with a selection of languages and pictures of the food to help you choose. Simply tap the food items you want and press order! The café staff will bring your food right to the table.Image via Shutterstock
6. The Menu
There are a few menu staples you can get year-round at the café, such as the ever-popular Pikachu and Eevee plates:- With the “Everybody's Favorite Pikachu Plate!” (1,848 yen), you get a Pikachu-shaped omurice (ketchup rice covered in a layer of tender egg), and side dishes like the monster-ball-shaped macaroni and cheese. All of this is served on a Pikachu-shaped plate with Pikachu-themed sides.
- If you’re in the Eevee camp, you can get “Eevee's Have-it-all Meal” (1,848 yen) instead. The plate comes with an Eevee-shaped rice burger and side dishes like a cream croquette, star-shaped French fries, pasta, or salad. The set is served on a cute Eevee-shaped plate.
The café also has drinks and desserts themed after many other popular Pokémon. The rest of the menu is constantly changing according to the season, but you can check their current special menu items on their website. If you have dietary restrictions, they also provide a list of the allergens in their food for you to check.
7. Say Hello to Chef Pikachu or Eevee
Keep your eyes peeled for a sight of Chef Pikachu or Eevee. These two adorable Pokémon performers wander through the café at random times to greet guests, around 6-8 times per day.Just imagine the Insta-worthy photos with one of the cutest electric-type Pokemon and one of the cutest normal types in adorable chef costumes.
8. The Pokémon Cafe is Pricey But Totally Worth It
While a typical drink at a café in Tokyo might cost anywhere from 200 to 700 yen, at the Pokémon café, drink prices range from 660 yen to 1760 yen. Likewise, the meals are more expensive than the usual café prices. While the café offerings are more expensive than you might expect, you are paying for the experience as much as the meal. If you’re a die-hard Pokémon fan, we think you’ll agree it’s worth it, though!Image via Shutterstock
9. You Get Free Things
There are a few extra perks to eating at the Pokémon café! All food and drink orders come with a free Pokémon placemat for you to keep. On top of that, you get a free coaster when you order a drink! To determine the kind of coaster you get, you get to play a game of luck on the ordering tablet. However, not all drinks come with a coaster, so make sure to check before you order.10. …And the Chance to Buy Exclusive Merch
If you missed the chance to pre-order the special goods, you can still buy plenty of cute café-exclusive merch like Chef Pikachu plushies, Pokeball mugs, and more at the cafe’s shop before you leave.

YumeTwins Kawaii Culture Blog›Choosing a Starter Pokémon
Choosing a Starter Pokémon
By JamesJuly 16, 2021

Rare Catches in ‘Pokémon Go’
By JamesJuly 14, 2021

The Best Pokémon Memes – When Fans Write the Script
By JamesJuly 09, 2021

YumeTwins Kawaii Culture Blog›How Well Do You Know Pokémon Evolutions? Take Our Quiz!
How Well Do You Know Pokémon Evolutions? Take Our Quiz!
By JamesJuly 07, 2021

Pokémon Sweet Treats & Snacks: Catch ‘Em All, With A Plate!
By JamesJuly 04, 2021
